My favorite things about thrifting are changing them into something else. There are top 5 favorite thrift flips with some ideas of what you can do with them.
Jeans
Jeans are the most basic article of clothing and can be easily tailored to fit any body shape or fashion style. The versatility of the available colors and washes allow for them to be mixed and matched with a variety of combinations of shoes, shirts, and accessories. The simplest "thrift flip" is to distress them - creating unique rips and fades that add personality and character to even the most plain jeans. Alternatively, jeans can be cut into capris, bermuda-length shorts, or short shorts to conform to the latest trends and seasonal changes.
Oversized t-shirts
Oversized shirts are one of the most abundant articles that can be found in thrift shops - especially since men's shirts can easily be transformed into cute, feminine styles with ease. Oversized shirts can be cropped with fabric scissors to create boxy crop tops, or they can be tied in the front or back to enhance the wearer's figure. For those that frequently exercise, oversized shirts can be trimmed around the collar and sleeves to create unique gym tanks - perfect for a casual outdoor jog!
Outerwear
Thrift shops are frequently abundant in warm, weather-resistant jackets and parkas. Many of these articles are perfect on their own - they just need a cute shirt to layer underneath to create unique combinations that provide both warmth and style.
Vintage accessories
Jewelry accessories are some of the most overlooked items in thrift stores. The addition of vintage earrings, necklaces, and ring is the perfect way to quickly complement an outfit. The faded metals and rustic designs add dimension and character to an outfit, and help to express the wearer's personality. However, a brief shine and buff can help revive the quality of the jewelry, bringing it back to its original, beautiful condition.
Knits
Knit sweaters, cardigans, and scarfs are an especially good find in a thrift shop. Some simply need to have a few minor repairs to fix snags and imperfections. One method is to loop a bobby-pin onto the snagged fabric, and then push the bobby-pin through the material to bury it from sight. Voila! A beautiful knit article is now ready to make a statement in the Fall season and will continue to be a reliable source of warmth and comfort as the seasons change.
